It’s time to take a breather from all the trade and free-agent noise that’s been happening off the court and concentrate more on what’s going to happen on the court. Hold out your plates because NBA Premium is serving you a mild taste of what the next season will look like. Yes, we’re talking about the Summer Leagues.

Often overlooked, the Summer Leagues are very important for every franchise, to plug in their draft picks and get them up to speed with their system. The rosters are mainly a mix of rookies, younger bench players and several free agents who are looking for opportunities to get invited to training camps. It allows the teams’ management, media and fans a closer look at the top incoming players and how they can compete at a stage that’s a tad below NBA level but far above college.

This year, two leagues are set to kick off – the Orlando Pro Summer League and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The Orlando Pro Summer League will only feature eight teams. From July 9-13, a total of 20 games will be played at the Orlando Magic's practice court at the Amway Center.

On a larger scale, the NBA Summer League will consist of 24 teams (23 NBA teams, 1 NBA D-League Select team) and will run from July 13- 22. The games in Vegas have been known to offer an exciting atmosphere with a ton of talented young players gearing up for their first real taste of NBA action. In fact, six of the last seven NBA Rookie of the Year Award winners made their debuts in Las Vegas such as Chris Paul, Brandon Roy, Kevin Durant, Tyreke Evans, Blake Griffin and Kyrie Irving.
