Speed and Power: Carmelo Anthony
Date Posted: 22 January 2013 0 CommentsOne of the teams that have made splashes so far this year are the New York Knicks, and that’s mainly because of their superstar Carmelo Anthony. The 6-8 forward has been phenomenal in the first half of the season with averages of 29.2 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 46% from the field (42% from downtown).
Melo is one of the top scorers in the league and, when in the zone, is unguardable. One reason why he is so good at what he does is because he follows a Plyometric routine.
For those of you who don’t know, Plyometrics are a type of exercise designed to produce fast and powerful movements used by athletes to improve performance that involve speed, quickness and power.
That’s his secret. And if you want to become as swift and dominant like Melo, you might want to try adapting his routine:
Front Box Jump
Stand facing a bench or a sturdy box (use one 12 inches high to start, and work your way up to taller boxes). Jump onto it with both feet, landing softly with your knees slightly bent. Step down and repeat.
Side Box Jump
This time stand with the box or bench at your left side so you jump onto it laterally. Land softly, step down, and repeat. Perform the second set with the box at your right.
Medicine Ball Jump
Stand under a basket or next to a wall. Grab a medicine ball and hold it over your head. Bend your knees and quickly bring the ball down to your waist. Explode straight up as you lift the ball above your head, trying to touch the ball to a target--the rim, the backboard, the bottom of the net, or a point on the wall.
Here at NBA Premium TV, we also encourage our viewers to stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle like the Knick superstar.
