Lebron James carries Miami Heat to NBA title

Date Posted: 22 June 2012     0 Comments

The King finally got his crown. After nine years of competing in the league, Lebron James became the 8th player in NBA history to win at least three MVPs and one NBA title.

"It's about damn time. It's about damn time," James said. And indeed it was. Determined to close out the series in South Beach, James finished with a triple double - 26 points, 11 boards and 13 dimes – to propel the Miami Heat to their second title in franchise history after beating the OKC Thunder 4-1.

Dwyane Wade, who was the main catalyst in the Heat’s title season back in 2006, said he was proud of James, "He took being the best player in the league to another level."

But the Heat couldn’t have done it without the big lift they got from Mike Miller. Hampered by injuries throughout the season, Miller spectacularly shot the lights out and tallied 23 points in 23 minutes, off an impressive 7-of-8 from behind the arc. The Thunder started the game flat and found themselves in a 17-point hole in the second quarter before making a small run to cut it to 10 at the half.

In the third quarter though, OKC made a string of turnovers that led to easy transition baskets for Miami. The Thunder wouldn’t recover and it was all Heat from there on out. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 32, while Westbrook had 19. But it still wasn’t enough. Now, they know the pain that Lebron endured from the losing in the 2011 Finals.

It was evident the whole season that Lebron James was on a mission after that sour defeat against the Dallas Mavericks last year. Criticized for being a “choker”, James worked his way back to the NBA’s biggest stage to prove all his doubters wrong. He put on sensational performances in each game of the series, enough for him to bag the Finals MVP award.

As the most scrutinized player in the NBA after he announced that he was “taking his talents to South Beach”, James admitted he played with a lot of hate last season. And most people despised “The Decision”. Now with a championship ring on his finger, he can hush his detractors.

"It means everything," James said. "I made a difficult decision to leave Cleveland but I understood what my future was about ... I knew we had a bright future (in Miami). This is a dream come true for me. This is definitely when it pays off."

And for the Miami Heat, having the best player in the league on their side is definitely rewarding.
